The Five Easy Pieces actress and her sibling were raised by a single mother suffering from depression. As per Sally, her mom always acted tough and put on a smile despite suffering from a serious case of depression.

Struthers made her acting debut over 50 years ago; she appeared in an uncredited role in the 1970 movie The Phynx. The following year, she got her breakthrough role in the CBS sitcom All in the Family. The 7-year-old played one of the main characters named Gloria Stivic and appeared in 184 episodes of the show from 1971 to 1978.

Sally Was Raised By A Single Mother

Sally Struthers family lived in Portland, Oregon. The Gilmore Girls actress was born to Robert Alden Struthers and Margaret Caroline.

Sally was the youngest child of her parents. She grew up alongside an elder sister named Sue Struthers.

Her father left the family when Sally was around 9/10 years old. After Robert moved out, the actress and her sister were raised by their single mother.

Sally Struthers dad Robert was a surgeon and a military veteran. He was born as the son of Gavin Hamilton Struthers and Marietta J Ainsworth on April 21, 1917.

Robert initially served as a Captain of the US Army in the Second World War. After the war ended, Struthers received his medical license to practice in Oregon in 1948.

Alden got married to Margaret Caroline Jernes in 1940. The couple had two daughters from the marriage, Sally and her sister Sue.

When Sally was around nine or ten years old, Robert walked out of the family. He eventually remarried a woman named Phyllis Parker on December 1964.

Struthers passed away in a car accident on May 24, 1968. He was 51 years old at the time of his death.

Margaret Caroline Jernes

Sally;s mother Margaret was born as the daughter of Johannes Jernes and Karen Selma Jernes on April 5, 1917. She grew up with three siblings named Karl Johan Jernes, Ida Jernes, and June Ethel Jernes.

Margaret was a Federal Government employee for over 15 years; she worked as a contract auditor for the Bonneville Power Administrator.

After her husband divorced Jernes, she took the responsibility of raising her two daughters alone. Despite suffering from depression, she did an excellent job of taking care of her two children.

Margaret was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in the later years of her life. She eventually passed away at the age of 79 on December 22, 1996.

Sally Was Previously Married To William C Rader

Sally Struthers husband William C Rader is a former psychiatrist. Medical license of Rader was revoked after selling unproven treatments to his patients.

Struthers married Rader in Los Angeles, California, on December 18, 1977. The actress was 30 years old at the time of her wedding.

During their marriage of fewer than six years, the former couple welcomed a daughter named Samantha.

Moreover, the two were also involved professionally as Rader wrote an episode of All in the Family in 1977. Unfortunately, the duo divorced in 1983.

Robert attended the State University of New York and graduated with his MD in 1967. He later served as a psychiatrist for the US Navy from 1971 to 1973.

Besides his credit as a writer on All in the Family, Rader worked as a KABC Eyewitness News’ medical expert for 14 years from 1977 to 1991. During this time, he also authored a book called No Diet Program For Permanent Weight Loss.

During the late years of his career, Robert got involved with the controversial stem cell treatment. He owns a company called Stem Cell of America which sells unproven treatments to its patients outside of the US. Each of the injections sold by his company cost over $30 thousand.

As Rader continued selling his treatment despite warnings from the medical board, his medical license was revoked by the Medical Board of California in 2014.

According to LA Times, the cancellation, however, didn’t force him to stop the unproven treatment. Instead, he simply changed his official title from “chief medical officer” to “chief scientist” and continued his business outside of the US. Meanwhile, he is not allowed to sell his injections inside US territory.

Sally Is The Mother of Samantha Rader

Sally Struthers daughter Samantha Rader is a psychologist based in Los Angeles, California. She is the only child of the All in the Family actress.

Samantha attended Vassar College in New York for her Bachelor’s degree. She later got her Doctor in Clinical Psychology from California-based Alliant International University.

Rader is best known for developing a treatment model called Source Code. She has also authored a book of the same name. According to her, most individuals use 12 coping mechanisms to adjust to their mental and psychological issues in childhood.

The 12 coping styles include symbiotic, disconnected, premature, idealizing, indulged, deprived, squashed, frictive, frustrated, omnipotent, constricted, and provocative.

Dr. Rader is focused on identifying the coping style/s adopted by her patients, while also helping them get over their childhood traumas.

Besides her career as a leading psychologist in Los Angeles, Samantha has also emerged as an influential figure on social media. She has over 13.7k followers on Instagram, where she goes by @drsamrader.

Sally Has A Sister Named Sue

Sally Struthers sister Sue Struthers was born in Portland, Oregon, in July 1945; she is currently 77 years old.

Sue, also known as Susan K Ramey, is settled in Milwaukie, Oregon. She is married to her husband named Craig Ramey.

Sue’s partner Craig previously ran a family business alongside his brother Dennis Ramey. The Ramey owned the Tri R Sales and Supply located in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Sue and her husband Craig have two children from their marriage. Meanwhile, the couple has not revealed the name of their kids.
